Choosing a New Web Hosting Plan?

I%26#039;ve been shopping for a new web host. I am confused about the bandwidth history of my current host. What is the difference between incoming and outgoing traffic? Last month my incoming traffic was 53.45 GB and my outgoing was 4.70 GB.

When I get a new host, what%26#039;s wrong with shared hosting? Why do people pay extra for dedicated? Is it just if you have web applications that require processing power?

is media temple%26#039;s gs a good option?

when dreamhost or hostmonster seem to offer more for less?

I%26#039;m hosting mainly static pages with some PHP 4, and using osCommerce. currently paying $150/month for dedicated hosting seems like too much.

Can anyone recommend the best hosting plan/company for me?

Choosing a New Web Hosting Plan?

First things first I would avoid Dreamhost and Hostmonster (or any such company for that matter) since they are serious oversellers. Another disadvantage is that such huge companies don%26#039;t care if a customer isn%26#039;t satisfied, they have enough customers and you%26#039;re just a small fish in the sea.

Also, please be aware that websites such as hostingplanscomparison.com and getawebpage.net are often manipulated: the %26#039;best%26#039; hosting companies on such websites are listed like that because they simply pay more than other companies for the advertising on that website.

Don%26#039;t listen to Sahil either. There%26#039;s no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. Any provider offering this is are scammers. Hosting providers have to pay for bandwidth, obviously they aren%26#039;t going to sell more than they can afford. Once you start consuming too much they%26#039;ll suspend your account without any warnings. Been there, done that. GoDaddy does the same.

I%26#039;ve had a lot of trouble finding a decent hosting provider myself. I%26#039;ve been with about a dozen so far, but I finally found a very decent one. Take a look at http://www.radixhosting.com/ . Their servers are really fast (never had any load issues), their uptime is great, their staff is friendly and they are fast when it comes to customer support. I%26#039;ve been a customer with them for 6 months now.

Choosing a New Web Hosting Plan?

I am currious to know why your incoming traffic is 53GB and outgoing is only 4.7GB on a static site. The ratio is correct but the ammount of traffic is interesting to me... I%26#039;m currious to see your site and what it entails.

-Here%26#039;s the breakdown. Your outgoing and incoming bandwith doesn%26#039;t really matter if you are running a static website with those kinds of numbers. That seems like something your hosting provider put together for a fancy feature.

-You only need dedicated hosting if you are a larger website with lots of server-side apps or scripts that need to run, OR if you just need lots of dedicated space.

-I have a client who has dreamhost and they are on the shared hosting. I like it because their panel is easy for me to use and if you are worried about it, your bandwidth allotment can grow over time depending upon the plan you choose. It%26#039;s plenty for my client and she has a pretty dynamic site with larger files. I do like dreamhost and they are running a promotion right now!

I personally have Go Daddy. I like it and it%26#039;s very inexpensive for the shared hosting.

It sounds like you are overpaying for something you don%26#039;t really need.

Good luck!

Other Replys:will suggest you try with Kitty Host, http://www.kittyhost.co.nr i also host my site with them along with the domain.

Other Replys:For mostly static pages and osCommerce, that bandwidth is what I call high. It may mean you are getting a lot of visitors. But if you are not getting a lot of visitors, or there are not much clicks between different pages, then it is time to investigate.

Do you have a statistics software on your hosting? Like awstats or webalizer. If yes, look at what they (stats software) say about your traffic.

In short, that is quite high a traffic to ignore.

By dedicated hosting, do you mean you have a VPS or a Dedicated server? If a dedicated server, $150 seems ok (a little above average, but ok), but if you have a vps, then you are paying high.

About shared hosting, there is nothing wrong (you are just sharing the server resources with many other users), and it is definitely cheaper.

But if your traffic are real visitors, I would not recommend you a shared hosting, as it will cost you more money than $150 (for lost sales) if your website runs slow or goes down, just because the shared server is filled with many heavy websites like yours.

Primarily, your mission if to discover whether the bandwidth is caused by real visitors (it may be a small DoS attack). Your next phase of decision-making would depend on that answer.

Other Replys:You might be interested in vps hosting, which is inbetween shared and dedicated hosting and costs around $40-$50 per month.

There are some good value vps plans here http://www.hostingdiary.com/2007/09/best...

Other Replys:dude just check out http://rightwebhosting.blogspot.com/ they have lots of web hosting companies listed there...probably you can find your answer there

Other Replys:http://www.getawebpage.net

That site lists the majority of the best webhosting companies.

Other Replys:Friend.... I would suggest Kohli Hosting - India%26#039;s Cheapest and Best Webhosting Company..... which gives unlimited bandwidth...... try it..... so forgot bandwidth..... use it to its full....

Other Replys:I suggest you compare your plan with the plans on this site:

http://www.hostingplanscomparison.com

It has lots of plans that can be compared.

Other Replys:from your site stats it seems to me you are wasting a lot resources. dedicated server is a good platform for biz but i feel your biz won%26#039;t need that yet. biz progress at certain rate and at any particular time need some particular resources to get it runs efficiently. so i think you should go for shared first then VPS and then dedicated server.

one more thing to understand about web hosting company is that they offer unlimited packages mainly for the purpose of attracting customer so beware with unlimited domain and unlimited bandwidth packages. these types of plan usually are targeted by domain auctioneer and reseller. these type of biz use a lot of resources. so if you sharing with these people the chance of slow loading or low uptime at certain period of time is very likely. check out the top web hosting company. they won%26#039;t offer this kind of unlimited packages because they really want to provide good reliable services.

there are some good hosting companies around but at the moment there are one company that has limited time offer. it seems to me the offer is a very good one. so if you want my recommendation you can check out below resources. hop that helps a bit.

Other Replys:Hi!

All your questions and doubts seem very basic. First, I try to answer your confusion about the bandwidth history. When you upload files to your server then it is considered as incoming traffic and when you download files or even open a webpage then it is outgoing traffic. If the bandwidth history is correct then you might have allowed in your website to upload video files, audio files, etc. which consumes more size.

In simple words a shared hosting is nothing but sharing a server by many domains. This shares the server memory, processing power, bandwidth and other server resources. It is true that web applications require more resources than static sites. But lot of small to medium web applications run on a shared server. The main advantage of shared hosting is low cost and the disadvantage is degraded hosting quality. The shared hosting is very suitable for small static sites which are not much business oriented. The advantage of dedicated server is superior quality hosting and the disadvantage is high cost. It shows your wiseness to choose between two and the company that fulfills its offer.

I dont have any experience about the hosting companies you mentioned. After looking at the size of your site I suggest you to go with a shared hosting with a good hosting company.
